There are few models that I won’t recommend for adult use, at least not for their official capacity numbers. The Coleman SaluSpa 4-Person Outdoor Inflatable Hot Tub is definitely a tub that is geared more towards small families and kids rather than adults since it has a narrow construction and a pool-like interior. While it comes with a ton of accessories and is generally well-built, it does cost more than other 4-person hot tubs out there, making it a little less competitive than some other models from the Coleman brand. In this review, I will walk you through its features and show you how it compares to the few other hot tubs in its class.

Overview and Features

One thing that I wanted to start with is that this hot tub is excellent for children to play in. Not only it is designed to look like a kid’s pool on the inside, but it is also fairly durable and can fit as much as 4-5 kids depending on their ages. Now, let’s talk about what it’s made of and how well its put together…

Coleman SaluSpa 4-Person Outdoor Inflatable Hot Tub

Product Rating: (4/5)

  • Durable materials
  • Pool-like interior design
  • Well put together
  • Inflates relatively fast
  • Easy to clean and maintain
  • Comes with all the accessories you need initially
  • Great for kids

Construction & Build Quality

The walls here feature Coleman’s typical 3-ply construction with I-beams on the inside to support the construction. As the walls are inflated and soft, so is the floor, which is unique to only a few models on the market and really adds a lot to the user experience. That inflatable floor eliminates the need of a ground cloth and keeps the colder ground away from the hot water. Kids will be able to sit on the sidewalls of the spa without bending them inwards which is one of the most notable structural features here.

Capacity and dimensions

The water and person capacity, as well as the dimensions, are definitely the weakest point of this tub. It is 71 inches wide with an interior space of just over 50 inches making it quite narrow for its official capacity of 4 adults. It fits 192 gallons of water, though, making it fairly economical when you have to fill it up and heat up that water. The small size gives it an advantage over other bigger models, however, making it easier to move around and store when you’re not using it.

If you want something a little more spacious and much more premium and feature-rich, I recommend the Intex PureSpa 28403E Spa Set. It has an excellent build quality and is one of the best 4-person hot tubs you can get. The only major downsides there are the heat-up times and the heavy price tag, which aren’t as apparent in this Coleman model.

Heater & Jets

The heater here is part of the multi-function pump. It connects via 3 tubes to the hot tub and runs the water through at a rate of 320 gallons per hour. It isn’t very strong and it heats up at a rate of around 4-5 degrees per hour. Thanks to the relatively low water volume, however, this allows for the tub to reach its maximum 104 degrees (Fahrenheit) quickly.

Somewhat disappointingly, there are only 60 air jets here which is the lowest number of any inflatable hot tub in this price class, where models usually have more than 100 each.

Installation

The installation process of Coleman SaluSpa Hot tubs, in general, is rather easy. This model makes no exception and everything here can be set up from a single person within an hour. You will be getting a printer user’s manual that will get you over all the steps for the process. Pay attention to warnings and safety instructions throughout all the steps. If you think it will be a hard task for you, visit your local pool retailed to ask for help.

The setup consists of 4 major steps:

  • Inflating the tub
  • Attaching the pump
  • Filling it up with water
  • Ensuring that you’re maintaining it properly

Lay the ground cloth beneath the hot tub and open the inflation valve. There is another smaller spring vale on the inside. Make sure that it is closed. Plugin the pump’s power cord into a socket and press the on/off button so that it lights in green. Then, it will start inflating. After you’ve inflated the tub’s sidewalls, inflate the flooring as well. Then, it is time to connect the three water connectors to the tub. These will take care of the water flow. The 320 gallons per hour will be enough to keep your water heated up and filtrated.

After all that is done, it is time to start heating up the water. Check-in a few hours to make sure that the heater is working. To speed up the healing process, use the thermal covers.

Additional Features

While there aren’t many additional features here, you do get quite a lot of accessories and parts with your hot tub package. Inside, you will get 1 pool liner which is basically a ground cloth used to lay on rougher surfaces. You also get a pool cover, the multi-functional spa pump, 1 floating chlorine dispenser, 2 filters, 1 protector, a repair patch, and the built-in air jet system.

The unique thing about this list of accessories is the repair patch. Other hot tubs typically need to be taken to a shop to be repaired under warranty or not. With this one, you have the option to repair any punctures yourself, even though those are hard to cause thanks to the 3-ply wall structure. The pool cover can also be used to accelerate the heating up process and can minimize heat losses between uses.

Conclusion and Rating

Product Rating: (4/5)

While the Coleman SaluSpa 4-Person Outdoor Inflatable Hot Tub offers a lot of accessories and features for a small-sized hot tub, it still is on the expensive side of the spectrum. Its dimensions aren’t quite adequate in order to fit 4 adults inside, making it a better option for small families or for your kids only. One thing I cannot fault, though, is the built quality and the overall amount of accessories you’re getting as I previously mentioned. With the tub, you get pretty much anything you will ever need to properly use and maintain it over time. Still, for the high price and lack of proper functionality, I gave it a four out of five stars rating. If you’re looking for something that will cater better to adults, I suggest checking out other Coleman hot tub models.
